It’s a beautiful time of year where I live in Arizona in the USA.

Spring weather means warming temperatures and a lot of outdoor play time for me and my kids. Our activities have been reduced to what we can do in our yard and neighborhood bike rides while we do our part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

However, as we’ve slowed down and I’ve spent more time sitting on my favorite chair watching my kids play in the yard I’ve come to appreciate this time of year that much more.

As I’ve watched the season change, my thoughts have turned to the concept of hope.

Hope is a desire for things to change for the better.

Hope is powerful. Hope keeps us looking to the future with anticipation.

Without hope we fall backwards. With hope we keep moving forward.

I don’t believe hope just happens to us. I believe hope is a skill that we practice.

We can choose hope over despair. We can take steps forward with hope.

Today I encourage you to practice hope.

Hope in yourself. Hope for growth. Hope in your future.

My hope is that you’ll take steps forward. For yourself and your future.

That you’ll join me and the hundreds of other students around the world who are practicing hope for a better future by learning to speak English clearly and with greater confidence.

We don’t know what the future will bring but we can always hope and keep growing so we’re ready for whatever comes our way.
